7:45 pm - 10:00 pm

The Loft Room @ The Old Fire Station

In the almost 20 years they have been playing together, Bitten by a Monkey have performed in such diverse places as The Vortex, The British Museum, Salford Arts Festival, Brighton Safehouse, and the Tinderbox Festival to mention just a few. The band comprises Roland Bates on piano, melodica, trombone and recorders, Dylan Bates on violin, xaphoon, musical saw and bongos, and Steve Myers on recorders. Together they have developed a form of structured improvisation which may include written compositions or part composed sections whilst retaining the energy and spontaneity of free improvisation. Most recently Bitten by a Monkey created a series of events at St. John on Bethnal Green featuring themselves with guest soloists (Pat Thomas, Rachel Musson, Evan Parker, Corey Mwamba, and many others) which ran monthly for almost two years.
